Opening .dwg files in VM 5.0

Hi all. I'm new at VM and CAD/CAM in general. I'm currently taking a class on CAM which features VM. For the life of me I can't open any files that I've created in AutoCad (2004). I asked my professor but since we just started the class he told me we would cover this later. Can someone help me with this? I can't wait to get started. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers -

    JT

Thanks for the response ger21. I've tried to save the file as all the file types AutoCAD will allow and none work. I can't understand why it would be that difficult to even open a file.

Does it seem like it opens, but there's nothing there? Or does it give you an error message?

If you're trying to export curves from acad export them as .dxf , for solids export as .stl --- in VM open solids as .stl , for curves import regions .

When saving the dxf as well make sure to save it as version 2000 or earlier. You should have no problem.
