    Acme rod suppliers in Australia???

    Hello.
I'm having great difficulty locating a supplier of the Acme precision threaded rod I need for my first CNC machine. Acme suppliers of single start rod are everywhere. No-body's even heard of 2 start rod.
There were other options available, but I had no idea it was seemingly impossible to get. I've already bought the dumpster anti backlash nuts to suit 1/2-8 2 start, so I'm committed.
I tried McMaster, but they won't post to Australia, well, not to me anyway.
I contacted Woody in USA, someone who helps out with ordering, packaging, posting etc. (extremely helpful guy by the way), but because the rods are 6ft long, the postage was going to cost US$300. That was just the price of the postage. At that price, it might be worth getting a quote to have them turned up.
Can anyone can suggest where I might get 2 6ft lengths of 1/2-8 2 start Acme precision threaded rod in Australia (for a reasonable price, of course)?
    Or, more precisely, a 60" (1524mm), a 42"(1067mm) and a 18" (458mm) length.
    Thanks.
    Paul.

Like most of us, you've found, multi start acme is impossible to source locally.

For the price you'll pay to import it from the US, you could afford to get ballscrews from this eBay seller.
Excellent prices and service. Check out the CNC forum over here, there are a number of satisfied customers, including me.
    Regards

    Melbourne manufacturer.

Matt Sinclair in Melbourne, Coburg can manufacture ACME to over 6M long if required. He also makes nuts.

I spoke to him a while back and he only did single start. May have changed by now but doubt it.

Smallparts have 2 start acme thread rods. They have most things enginneering wise but I find them pretty expensive.

Thanks guys. I suppose I'll have to accept I've made a tactical error. I'll see if I can flog the dumpster gear on ebay and start again, with ballscrews this time.
    Oh well, live and learn.

    Hi,

It might be easier to get hold of multistart metric trapezoidal screws.

Don't know what $$s are, but these might be worth a try:

Mecco have "Acme spindles 1-2-3 starts 10mm to 160mm in diameter"

    http://www.mecco.com.au/acmescrews.html

Motion Technologies have metric trapezoidal screws listed:

These guys have single start ACME at reasonable prices ($263 for 12' x 1'')
