    Any YAG experts around?

    Hi,

I may get a used YAG-head really cheap.
The laser is an Spectron Laser Systems and is marked "180W CW / 35mJ"
I'ts just the head with engraving galvos and I'm wondering about the needed chiller and power supply data for a YAG of this size.

I realize this is a major project to undertake so I need some more information. If I end up trying to get it going it won't be to make any profit from it, just for fun and learning!

    Regards

    /Daniel

The head itself is going to need some serious power... think in the range of 100A at a few tens of volts.

A CW yag laser uses arc lamps that run on anything from 180 to 340 volts at 40 to 80 AMPS

plus the chiller used will need deionized water becouse the watter will be in contact with the lamp and Voltage terminals.

you might get by using a ION laser PSU

i can help you if you decide on taking the project.

Hmmm, I thought SLS used direct drive laser diodes in their systems, not flash lamps. If it's flash lamps, use Redsail's specs... if it's diodes, use mine.

you are also correct, it could be diode pumped, but for the rated power i dont know.
