Is LPS 2 the best choice for mill to prevent rust?

Trying to find out what the best oil is to put on my mill and rotary table. I don't use it very often, so I want to get some good lube that will last.

I was using mobil 1 to wipe it down but I noticed a brown coating on the bottom of my rotary table. It looked like dirt at first but it must be rust, it did wipe off. Have I done a lot of damage to it to allow it to rust like this?

I see LPS 2 recommended a lot but these are from old posts and not sure if there is maybe something better people are using.

I use a spray bottle of diesel and oil about a 80 20 mix, works for me.
