The 2500 control was initially a collaboration between Bridgeport and Heidenhain.
The operation and programming knowledge transfers easily. The physical control is different (in its own box not in the same box as the keyboard) and the parameters are very different.
The 151 would convert all the programs in memory from conversational to ISO and visa versa. I did not find the 2500 to do this.
The first 2500 controls came through at version 3 software build. In short time it had to go up to version 12 so make sure you have version 12 in the control.
And yes, a very dependable control.

I general you will find that all of the things you write in an older control will go into a newer control, but not always vice versa. Every newer control had new cycles etc that the older one would not recognize.
I would agree with Gus re compatability. Here`s a link to the programming manual download.
