    DNC from floppy drive

According to the manual I should be able to run a program directly from the "floppy disk". It says to press MDI then enter the program name and press MDI again.

I've tried several programs and several disks but I always get the same message "Cannot find file" or something similiar to that. I can upload these same files into the mill from the floppy, so I know that the disk is good and the controller can read them. It just won't allow me to run them from the floppy.

What am I I'm doing wrong? I'm following the manual step by step.

I also have the parameter and settings turned on for "DNC from floppy", as stated in the manual.

    Any ideas?

    JW,
Haas files need to be files named staring with a"O" not zero

Here is a very simple example of the name, start charecheter and end charecter

    JW,

    ***********************************************

My files all look like your sample.....percent sign on the first line....letter O with 5 numbers on the second line....etc. Program ends with percent sign. Still no luck.

I can load any of my programs "directly" into the mill with no problem but when I try to DNC them straight from the floppy, it won't read these same files.

Well.....its been a couple years but I believe I solved the DNC problem by getting rid of the "extension" after my file name.

    Example:
O12345 and NOT O12345.txt......or whatever extension a cad/cam program adds to your filename.

Haven't DNC'd from a floppy for a looooong time but I believe that is how I solved it.

    Good Luck

Yeah I figured it out. Here is what you have to do.

    1. When saving your program make sure there is an O1111 or similar
    example: Oxxxx
    %
    O1111
    N01 GO M3 T1;
    N02 G1
    M30
    %

    2. IMPORTANT!!! When saving your program before putting on disk, save it to a no format. This means type in the save file name as to: O1111.
Thats it. Don't put .exe or .txt or .nc, just put a dot then a couple of spaces after it. This is what took me a while to figure out.
    Example: Save as --- O1111.

    3. Save that file to floppy disk

    4. Put floppy into the machine, then go to programs list. Press F4. It will then read floppy and then say done reading directory.

    5. Then press the MDI button. Type in your file name. For example: O1111
Then press the MDI/DNC button again. Your program should load and you should see the program. You are ready to press start cycle.

Note: I've noticed with mastercam X4 if the words in the parenthesis are too long at the beginning of the program there will be an error on the machine.

If you have any problems let me know.
    Thanks,
    Dave
