    5.25 floppy motor issues

I was able to get the hold of some old 5.25" floppy drives and I've been trying to connect them to my pc as suggested on http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/diskstepper.html
The problem is that I was able to get a 3.5" floppy motor to respond but using the same method I can't get these 5.25 ones to do anything. I know the motors work since they go to 0 on boot up. Is there some kind of a disk insert detection I have to disable? The motors were made by TEAC (PN: 14769070-90) and according to one source they are unipolar (2 phase but could be 4 phase).
    Any help would be appreciated

IIRC, there are disables on the motor board..that would be the phototransistor near the entrance slot of the disk...
