    Hardinge CHNC

Having made a bad deal, I am stuck with a couple of Hardinge CHNC's that have been stripped. I have a couple of questions since I have never used these lathes before. What should the spindle feel like when rotated without the belts? One feels smooth, but has a lot of drag, the other feels like it has ballbearings without any lubrication.

The other questions is how do I hold collets? On my southbend, there is a tube that goes through the spindle and screws to the end of the collet, pulling it into the spindle. Can someone post a picture or a link to a picture of what the collet closer should look like?

The spindle 2.187" on the OD of the threads, 1.26" ID in front and 1.43" ID rear. The front looks like it has a 5C taper.

One more question: What type of chuck mount is this called?

    Thanks

    Vince
