    Silicon Sealant work with coolant??

    Hi,
About to build my enclosure for my X3 mill and need to know if silicon sealant is suitable to run in some of the joints. Will it be OK with coolant splashing about?
    cheers,

Yes, use bathtub/shower enclosure sealant. It contains a fungicide to prevent mildew.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

I would use true 100% RTV Silicone like General Electric. There are some bathroom sealants that are not silicone and do not stay flexible. RTV won't break down with any normal coolant. Keep the coolant skimmed and no problem.

    Hi Rod,

I haven’t had much luck with general purpose silicon but had the need to use aquarium repair silicon a while back. This stuff sticks like sh*t to a blanket and I have never had a joint leak. May be the same stuff as mentioned above.

I had a feeling there might be more to this than simply grabbing the first open tube of sealant and squirting away. I wouldn't want my blanket coming unstuck so aquarium/RTV it is and thanks for the advice.
