    Good for a newbie?

I have down loaded the program, and the tutorials are a great help, but is this a good starting point for someone that use pen and paper as their CAD program?

I think it is a very good starting point. To jump into CAD from Drafting is going to be difficult at first. If I were doing it then this would be the prefered program. Just enough high end ability to get most work done but easy enough to functionally learn without a classroom. Some software would require a course study for experienced users to learn.

It seemed very natural to me, but I was about 4-5 years into a home metal shop hobby when I started. In that hobby you start with a block or cylinder of material and whittle away at it until it has the form you want. Each "whittling" operation corresponds to a cut extrusion so it was pretty simple for me to pick up at least the basics.

By comparison, I never could get proficient at 2-D CAD.
