    Question for a Newb!

    Afternoon Everyone,

I'm relatively new to CNC. Been doing a few designs here and there learning the machine and everything else. My question is, which CAM software is best for me? So far, I've been creating SVGs or DXFs from images such as signs and stuff that I want to make or custom designed vectors, however I'm having difficulty finding a CAM software that can handle this. I've played around with Fusion 360, Easel, and now MeshCam however all of these products freeze up when I try to import complex SVG or DXF files. For example, I took a picture of a cool Yuengling sign that I wanted to make, converted it to a vector and saved it as a DXF and when I try to load it into MeshCAM, it freezes and does nothing. Is there software out there that can handle what I am trying to do? And doesn't cost $2000.

PS. My computer is plenty powerful enough to run these programs.

    Regards,

    Ben

What are you creating the .dxf files in?
Can you post one of them?
In MeshCAM, are you using "Open 2D .dxf"? I believe that MeshCAM will only open it if it's a closed polyline, or circle. And according to the manual, the .dxf must be in V12 format.

CamBam will digest just about any DXF, including 3D DXFs, STLs and many others. Also the new beta version (1.0.xxxx) also imports .BMPs, .JPGs, and .PNGs directly and converts them to vector files and will export that as a DXF or create G-code from it. 40 use free trial, and $149 if you want to buy.
