    Z axis torque alarm

On some of our FANUC wire EDM machines, the Z axis stops when
I move it . The torque alarm comes on.
This doesn`t happen all the time.

A few people have told me that if the Z axis is over-greased this will happen,
and if the wrong grease is used it may also happen.
And if the grease is old and dried out it will happen.

Is this a common problem due to poor maintenance, or something else ?

Also There is no obstruction to the Z axis.

    Thanks, Tom

Don't know about your Fanucs, but I've seen it happen several times on our Brother HS-70A's.

You have to be very careful greasing the Z-axis.

Over vigorous application will pop the seals, and then your in trouble.

After replacing two Z-axis units on ours we rarely grease the "Z" any more.

This happens on our Fanucs occasionally, in our case it's definitely because of lack of grease. Apply the correct grease the correct way and you should be fine.

Don't really need to worry about blowing any seals on the Fanuc with the way the grease gun is made.
