Plasma/Laser cut parts to build a CNC Router

    Hi All-
A couple years ago when I first joined CNCzone, I had read a build log about someone who made a router frame from a single 4' x 8' sheet of steel that he had laser or plasma cut.

He had created an ingenious design so that the edges of the steel were like "finger joints" that interlocked together. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_joint
He did this so that no jigs were required to align the parts when they were welded together. It appeared that once it was welded, it would make a very strong system.

I am looking to find this thread, and possibly use this design on a router that I am planning on building. I have tried searching for several key words that may have been in the thread, but I have not had any luck.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks-

can't help much although I think I've seen a German one that was laser cut and then glued (presumably he couldn't weld)

That's not exactly the one I remember, but I like it -Thanks!

Lots to learn from the pictures. I'm thinking of trying a 50" x 80" platform, as I have rails and ballscrews to suit that much travel. I'll need to design up my own plans.
