    X2 Z-axis bearings...

    Hello,

I am planning to implement the hossmachine CNC Z-axis mount. I have studied the drawings on the hossmachine site carefully. This leads to the following question: I note that there are two thrust bearings, a larger one on top and a needle flat on the bottom of the mounting bracket, but the belt drive creates a radial load in addition to the thrust load from the cutter. What carries that radial load?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter

    Re: X2 Z-axis bearings...

If I recall correctly, the radial load is largely carried by the ball bearing nut riding on the ball screw. The thrust bearings contrain the ball nut vertically as the ball nut is driven to move the screw up/down, so the stiffness of the ball screw is what counters the belt tension. --md
