Help needed with Fanuc OM and Z home

We recently purchased a Kitamura Mycenter-1 but we have a problem with the Z axis. The Home position is a little offset, the tool changer arm hit the head when it came to change the tool, the Z home must be set .250 higher.

Does a gentleman know how to do this procedure?

    Thanks,
    Alex

The adjustment can be made with the grid shift, it is probabally para 0510 for the Z axis, if you have the maintenance manual it should explain it.
Something may have changed mechanically, dog position, home switch position, or encoder position relative to ball screw etc.

Well, i don't get any manual with the machine...

    Could you be more explicit?

    What is grid shift?

    Thanks ,

The home is done by the encoder detecting the one-revolution marker pulse after it sees the home switch, rather than tediously adjusting the encoder or dog etc, the grid-shift parameter electronically shifts the marker point by the amount in the grid shift parameter, entered in amount of encoder pulses to shift.

Well, your a pro, i had needed to shift the value from -950 to 3200.

Work fine now, but a lot of work to do , the tool changer arm overshoot.....I may need to tighten the brake and maybe there some mechanical play somewhere....Will try to solve by the weekend.....

    Thanks for the tips,

Well, the problem persit , each time we shut down the machine, when we power-up again we need to readjust the grid shift because the motor is alway in Z overtravel alarm and the tool changer arm will hit the spindle??

Any idea of what can cause the loss of this data? There no mechanical play in the ballscrew/bearings/coupling....

    Thanks,
    Alex

Did you check the Z home limit for loose/sticking situation?
Just replacing it may eliminate the problem.

    Hi

We have a Kitamura MyCentre 2C with Fanuc 11M Controller. We find our Z home is fine but the very first Automatic tool change will Jam, once jogging it back home. From then on it is all good for the day. We too are a bit bewildered by this. Although our Z home is all Good.

    Cheers

I have heard of this problem.
You say it is the FIRST tool change of the day, is this correct?

    If so you can try two things;

    1. Leave the spindle empty for one night and try the tool change in the morning.

2, If this works you are having a problem known as taper lock. Most imes this occurs due to sticky coolant on the tool tapers! I suggest cleaning ALL tools, spindle taper, and magazine pockets with "scotchbrite" and WD40(or some GOOD rust inhibiter)! Them spray a light coating on all AFTER cleaning.

This should take care of your problem.
