Helix bore w/ Cutter comp - Alternative?

    Hey folks,

I have a bore that I need to use cutter comp on. It's been roughed out and I need to finish to .450, and I'm using a 1/4" endmill with probably too much stickout for my own good, but that's beyond the point. Part of the problem, I believe, is that I'm trying to finish a bore less than 2*D.

My problem is with engaging cutter comp with this helix bore toolpath. I have compensation set to wear, start at center ON, and perpendicular entry ON, as suggested here:

    Attachment 276998

However, whenever I run the code on our EC400 it errors out with Haas error 369: Tool too big to enter cut.

Is my only option to hand code this part in? Maybe a contour-ramp and have it comp in above the bore then feed in? It would be slower, because the bore is down .54" in the pocket.

    Thanks!

I just reproduced your tool path and got the same path as yours. I turned off Perpendicular Entry and it took away the straight line move and started on center.
Not sure if that code will work in your machine or not.

    Strange.

Maybe someone else can help solve this.

When I take off that perpendicular entry it arcs into the cut, which doesnt allow me to turn on cutter compensation.

Ok, try this...change Entry arc sweep to 90 and turn off Perpendicular entry.

You need to turn the entry exit arc sweep to 0. You don't want an arc entry because your cutter comp has to be turned on in a straight linear motion.

Leave perpendicular entry set to on.

I did as you suggested, and it went into the cut perpendicular, but still couldn't compensate, erroring out with the "Tool Too Big" error.

Were are you getting the tool is to big in the control? what value do you have in the control?
