    Step motor or servo motor

I saw on different website that servo motor are more efficient and the laser engravers I saw seems to be more precise and faster with that kind of motors .

So is it possible to change from step motors to servo motors on our K40 laser engravers ??

If it is using a control such as Mach etc, the controller does not know what motors you are using so if you replace the steppers with servo's, as long as the drives are replaced and tuned to the motors, it should be possible.

You would need to ask the OP why, he asked if it were possible!

Hello, this is Nolan from Thunder Laser, I post a video about the difference between stepper motor and servo motor.

    You mean this video:

It's really faster than stepper motor

it is why we use servo motor not stepper motor.

thats the thing, its not the motors only that create precision, its the entire motion system, play in belts, play in linear stages, backlashes, etc.
motion system of the small K40 is just incapable to provide for any level of precision, so whats the point sticking precise motors?

Simply because all the other parts can be changed for better ones !

    So the mainboard? :-)
You better buy real engraver instead loosing time and mone for k40.

    Of course the mainboard too.
It's sometimes easyer to make changes on a machine than buying a machine that coast a lot. When you have 1000 € you don't have 1500 or 2000 € so you're doing your best with what you have !

true, we all have our financial constrains.
but if your goal is to have more precise machine then throwing servos on a K40 will not get you any closer to your goal. and changing the entire motion system does not make any sense financially.

But i'm not going to change for servo motors it was only a question ! I just wanted to know if it was possible, I prefer changing my laser tube for another more powerfull ! and also the motherboard for a better one (maybe a dsp one)
