    A few questions on FC2.5D

    I just bought feature cam 2007 2.5D.

I was wondering if there is a way to make a point a certain distance from a point previously created?

Also is there a way to set FC up to default to a spot drill instead of a center drill.

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Ed,

The offset function is what you want to use, look in the drawing tools.

For the spot drill you can build a tool crib for the machine you are writing code for. Put only the tools you have in this crib and rename it. This will save you much trouble with tool selection.

Thanks, that sounds like a good Idea. Do you know how FC picks the drill for a tapped hole. Is it based on a percentage of thread? Does it just pick the closest drill from the tool crib?

    Hello,
Also under machining attributes on the tool selection tab, you can specify wheather you prefer a spot drill or a center drill as your default tool.

You probably found the "Thread % for tap drill" on the machining attributes page dmealer mentioned. You can also specify an exact drill size to use for each tap. Uncheck 'Calculated' on the "Tap Tool Tab" of the "Tap Tool Properties" dialog and enter the size you prefer.
