    Why PathPilot on Ubuntu 10.04?

Hope I didn't miss this discussion elsewhere.
Anyone know why Tormach released PP under Ubuntu 10.04 rather than 12 or 14? I think 10.04 went unsupported back in 2013. Since the official PP distribution is on an image DVD, I'm not to sure how or if one could successfully move it to a newer release without a lot of tweeting.

PathPilot was origionaly started when Linuxcnc was using 10.04 ,( around linuxcnc version 2.6.3) and due to some constraints and stability kept to it .
updating to a new current kernel etc , without the sources is to say, difficult as part of linuxcnc is compiled into the Kernel and Realtime including versions .

if you have the sources then yes it can be re-compiled and modified to the newer realtime and kernel , but it's not straightforward , theirs quite a few changes that need to be made .
took me a few days to work thru it all

Are updates then transparent, or do you have to revisit mods?

unfortunately not , you need to add the updates manually and fix any unforeseen problems, and in some cases that may not even be possible ,
i'm hoping to be able to do that shortly , but it will be using my version only and i'll update as required and issue releases ,
