Question Full HDD backup of a VM2

For keeping safe and not complain after I want to make a full image of the 2.5" IDE HDD that is on my VM2.

I normally use the linux tool DD to create disk images. I tested from the original disk to another equal capacity disk (40Gb) but it did not boot.
I wonder if I need any special setting or the "system" is protected somehow.
I never had problems before with DD, so I suspect that some trick exists. Anyone knows how to make a full copy? The machine owner should be able to make this without asking for Hurco.
    Thank you

I found when you format the new drive before imaging, look at all the sectors/heads on the hurco, then use those same settings to format the new drive. I've done that with an older version of ghost with success.

I will give it a try. When you say ghost it is North Ghost?
So the imaging is possible, that is at least a good lead so that I can continue trying.
