    Flood Coolant Recommendation

Started using a new coolant yesterday. I have been using KoolMist 77, first as mist coolant (FogBuster), and for the last couple of years as flood coolant. I like it in that it is pretty benign - doesn't cause any irritation, doesn't smell, doesn't leave much in the way of residue. But as a cutting fluid, it leaves a lot to be desired, especially in the way of lubricity. So, yesterday I switched to Rustlick WS-5050. So far, I'm very happy with it. Being a soluble oil, it is a bit messier, but definitely does a far better job of lubricating. May be my imagination, but surface finish also seems to be slightly improved. And - a major improvement over KoolMist - I can use a refractometer to measure the concentration, making maintenance easy. KoolMist, regardless of concentration, reads like plain water. Cost is slightly more than KoolMist, but not enough to matter, and Rustlick can be used at lower concentrations, so overall cost could well be lower.

How easy is it to dispose of? One of the reasons I'm using Kool Mist 77 (and a fogbuster, rather than flood..) is I don't have to think about disposal!

    Tiago,

No idea. Coolant is pretty darned good at disposing of itself, IME. I've never had to dispose of any. My impression is this stuff is pretty benign, but the MSDS would probably indicate any concerns.

I got mine on E-Bay - the price was reasonable, and it arrived quickly. It's pretty widely available, so you won't have trouble finding it. Just Google "Rustlick WS-5050". I paid about $40 for a gallon of concentrate. I believe it's about $125 for 5 gallons. I'm very happy with it, and wish I'd changed a long time ago. It really is MUCH better for drilling.

Here is one for you, Went to a reputable shop in my town, asked the machinist if I could buy some coolant. Sure he says, let me go check what I have (see if he as any to spare). Comes back and says how much do you want? All I really need is 4L and he fills my jug, gave him $20 for beer money. Says its the best coolant he has used in 25yrs. Good for all metals according to him and I am to mix it to 25:1 with a result of 5%-7%. I took a photo of the jug before I left but for the life of me I cant find much of anything for info on the stuff. Can find a MSDS fairly easily but no literature on its application and so forth. Anyone heard of this before?

    Re: Flood Coolant Recommendation

When I search for ecocool AP 71 this came up :

ECOCOOL AP-71 | Monroe Fluid Technology

Not sure if they are saying it's the same?

Finding info on FUCHS products is not the easiest task. It's like you can only get the info you are looking for from a dealer or sales rep.
