I am looking for a system that will allow double closed loop control.
1st Loop = Absolute rotary encoder on the shaft
2nd Loop = Linear scale on the table

Is the second loop typically closed back to the drive or back to the controller?

Anyone know a way to accomplish this without a fanuc controller?

K-flop and kanalog will do it. Maybe even just k-flop if you close the first loop in your drive.

Why was this moved to the software forum? I am asking about a motion controller and servo drive /servo setup that would allow me a double closed loop. I am asking about hardware. Software will be determined by the hardware choices available to accomplish this.

There is the only "general" motion controller section.
Do you have a preferable one?

Between kflop and galil what would be the better choice?

I have mainly used Galil, but there is no CNC front end for Galil besides Camsoft unfortunately.

So if I have a DMC 4040, there are few options to make a router/mill other than Camsoft?
Or maybe the Mach3 plugiin?
