Hello all,new to forum. i am looking at a cnc conversion kit from automation technology inc. its the g0704 cnc kit set with electronics.I think it requires me drilling
a 1" hole thru the column, i dont think thats a great idea as the mill is not so solid as is. but besides that its a complete kit with a good price. dos anyone have

find the electronics and wires that are in the kit and get some other mounts and ball screws. im afraid of wiring and boards so was wondering if someone could tell me if
its as simple as getting a power supply, stepper driver box,motors and cables? there are so many boxes,motors and power supplys to choose from i get so lost and really dont know
what im looking at. thats why the complete kits look good to me. ive also considered flashcut cnc but its pricey. help!!!

What would that hole be for ? Apart from rear mounting the stepper for the Y axis I can't recall any one drilling the column.

im not 100% sure but i think you have to get the screw to table thru the column with this kit. the kit is made so you can keep the manual mill ability.

The Automation Technology kit (people I have bought over $20,000 of equipment from over 5 years) came with a ball nut that was not built properly and I got no reply from their new support group. The conversionkit came 3 weeks late, with oblong bearing seats and no ball screws for another 2 weeks of pleading.

Bummer sorry to hear that.Thats why i was just wanting the complete electronics package out of the kit and not the mounts and screw. because its plug and play and at that price i cant see
the ball screws being any better than the stock ones.

If you can wait a week, I am finishing a conversion that is being done with no modification to the mill, either the grinding of the saddle to accomodate the x axis nut or any holes to mount the y axis to the back of the mill. You will also not have to take the y axis nut off of the screw (a problematic thing) to get it to fit into the slot of the y axis of the saddle. The rest you can order through Automation Technologies since they come direct from their Chinese suppliers and don't require any in-house expertise or patience. Power supply, drivers, motors and motor couplings.

ok so if i understand correctly this one will work with the motors in the heavy duty motor setup, it specifies 7amps. i want a 4th axis so luckily i can have that added for some extra $.

Thanks to everyone for all the help!! such nice folks. i greatly appreciate you guys taking the time to help. thanks for the warnings on the kit i asked about.i had read some things but wanted to
confirm my suspicions here. About the 1" thru the column, i read a thread about a install of a kit like the one i asked about and he had to put a 1" hole thru the mill,at that point my mind was kinda
made up, not that i cant do, but a matter of i dident want to. and he also had 5 other issues with the kit. so moving on!
im a no electronics guy. i dont know anything about it.
when looking at automations selection of electronics its overwhelming. as far as whats a good powersupply and will it work with the driver box and will driver box work with
the motors etc. so in short id like to just plug things in,so do i need to match up the powersupply amp output with the driverbox amp output with the motor amperage etc? ive been researching all this stuff for
a while, but alot of the threads i read are over my head so i give up. hoping u guys can help. thanks

thanks hoss, ive been all over your site and watched all your videos. your site is how i found all the electronics and motors.i thank you for all your hard work. Ive never wired something like this before. so its quite intimidating. i was thinking something along these lines 3 Axis CNC Stepper Control Box, Digital Stepper Motor Driver, 110VAC/220VAC for G0704 | Automation Technology Inc (no wiring) so with that the rest i need is motors,computer,cables, mach3,and motor mounts? am i missing something. thanks again

I am putting together a list for my conversion. I agree, it is rather confusing. I looked at the parts someone local to me has gotten. thanks for the reply, i believe one of the ballscrew kits im looking at is also from arizonavideo. if i tried i know i could do it will take alot of focus and good prep and taking my time. just alot of little things
like what gage wire to use with what component and route it nicely and checking for proper amperage etc. i have never got into something electronic. after watching a couple wiring videos,i feel a little
better about it.

If the image is correct it comes with the 4 pin connectors, you'll just need the motor cable to solder to the steppers and the end of the connector.

i just noticed that box i posted has weird looking motor connections,they dont look like 4 prong. and the motors dont come with 4prong hookups in the pics. but after looking at the
cables Motor cable with connector, 12 feet | Automation Technology Inc i think i see whats going on. i would directly wire the motors with the
loose end of the cable and install the male end on the box. i originally thought the cable had connections on both ends. thanks

Yes that box will work with the motors I have listed in my Heavy Duty Digital package.
A note on the box, they are not plug and play, you'll likely have to open the cover and set the jumper switches on the drivers, at least some people have that emailed me before.
I have some tips on my FAQ page for the settings.

You might consider home/limit switches and you'll have to make the motor cables, links to parts are on my page too.
