    dc motor control

I just got a dc motor control that is rated at 16 amps, and the treadmill motor that I want to power it with is rated at 18.5 amps, so my question is can I still run the motor with this control or should I try and find a motor tht requires less amperage?

Depends on the DC controller, many simple controllers have a plug-in current limiting resistor, (you may be able to change it). If not this means that the motor may never reach maximum torque, if the current is limited, but may be suitable to use if loaded less than the torque capability of the motor.
