    My Gingery Inspired lathe project

So, a few months ago I got really excited about Gingery's workshop from scrap series.

I managed to get my hands on a blown aluminum trans am block from the mid 90 as my source of aluminum.

As I went through the process of researching further and starting my build, I realized that there were easier, better ways to do some of this stuff that were actually cheaper as well.

I have since realized that perhaps i should try utilizing other materials for my lathe, while keeping true as I can to the design.

I salvaged the crankshaft supports (steel or cast iron?) to use as my lathe feet, and am using bought steel tubing/flats for my lathe bed. I am thinking of later filling the tubing with epoxy granite.

I will give credit to this guy for inspiring me to use tubing instead of a casting for my bed: Lathe

Anyways, this thread will follow my development. I'm not sure if this will really be a Gingery lathe when done, but certainly inspired by it.

Pics attached to this thread of how I am starting out.

Hmm, I had created this thread then it disappeared. Now it's back after I created it elsewhere.
