Hi All
I don't have any thing to do with this machine but I thought it really cool. I enjoyed watching this and I want one. Merry Christmas to all.

Just a manual broaching attachment for a lathe. You can do the same thing using the Z axis on a mill. I've done it many times to cut keyways in pulleys. The only thing you really need to make (or buy) is something to hold the cutting tool. I just took a piece of drill rod, drilled a cross hole near one end, large enough for a small lathe tool to fit through, then an axial hold in the end, tapped for a set-screw, to hold the lathe tool in place. Chuck the rod into the spindle of a mill, or a boring bar holder on a lathe, and use the quill or carriage to run it through/over the workpiece, taking a couple thou off with each pass.

Ray L.
Thats the Stepperhead lathe. It's a beautiful homemade machine.

Yeah, I made a video first using the mill for z axis broaching over 6 years ago, been there done that. Cool machine nonetheless.

That's the amazing Stepperhead lathe built by Alan Jackson. The design was serialised in Model Engineers Workshop mag over a long period. I bought the plans off him some years back, and I'd love to actually get the time to make it, it's a pretty spectacular bit of kit!
cheers, Ian
It's rumoured that everytime someone buys a TB6560 based board, an engineer cries!
