I emailed Smoothstepper support yesterday but have not received a response so I'm hoping someone here knows how to solve my problem.

For the last two days I've been trying to install a new USB smoothstepper into a Win7 PC.

Windows 7 - 64bit - AMD 3.9BG quad CPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM

Have attempted an install on a second PC (old P4 with Win7 32 bit) Same crash.
Mach 3 Version 3.043.066 (Have also attempted on v3.042.40)
Smoothstepper USB driver 2.08.30
Smoothstepper v17f plugin

Now, the issue:

Install in device manager, success
Install plugin, success

Open up Mach 3, Select Smooth stepper from Motion control list, the next couple screens pop up and click onwards, then the motion control list stays on the screen and the PC crashes out to the point that the PC has to be hard reset, cannot even stop the crash using ctrl+alt+del end task.

I had the CNC engineer to come out yesterday for half a working day (the guy who designed & built the machine we use) and he was unsuccessful in getting it any further than the crash point described above and suggested I contact support.

Have you tried saving your settings then uninstalling everything. After that start over from a clean slate.

Looks like you installed the parallel port driver. Uninstall it. You might want to read the Mach3 manual on how to remove it.

After messing around further it turns out I was not using the latest smoothstepper driver, which has solved the problem.
