Haas RS232 Data Ouput to external micro controller

Just playing around here with some lighting indicators in the shop and though it might be cool to be able to slip DPRNT lines into part programs that would output to arduino type controller to be interpreted and used to control and light indicator system, i.e., this program is 0-100% done. The arduino could output to a lcd, or even an led light bar to show progress that could be seen from a distance.

Anyone ever dabbled in this type of communication via RS232 from the Haas control to any external device?

I have not done what you are proposing, but we do use M51-M58 to activate the optional M-Code Relays.
External devices can be controlled from within a program in this way.
Look in your user manual in the M-Code section for a description. Also see M21-M28 and Optional 8M-Code Relays.
