    New g0704 arriving tomorrow

    Hoss,

I have been lurking in the background for some time but I am finally becoming a member of the g0704 club. I ordered my machine on Sunday and it should be here tomorrow. My plans are to use this machine as a manual machine for a while and then purchase another to CNC. I have been taking machining classes at a local community college in the Richmond, Virginia area. I also have bought all of your DVDs that I have enjoyed studying.

I do have a couple questions on the g0704 before I start.

    1. Should I plan on having to lap this machine? I have an X2 mill that definitely had to be lapped. I am hoping the fact that this machine has the tapered gibs may alleviate the need for this process.

    2. Has grizzly ever solved the motor burnout problem on this mill like putting a different motor and controller board on it or should I get prepared for the motor burning up at some point?

I am sure I will think of some other question once I get the machine taken apart to clean off the cosmoline.

Lapping is a debatable topic. I will leave that 1 to you.

I believe they have addressed the motor issue however be prepared anyway. I went to an 1100 watt from Weiss. There are a few routes to solve that issue if it arises.

    Welcome aboard Steve.
    1. Any scraping work will depend on the condition of the mill, most likely not, I've never touched mine but a thorough inspection of the ways should be on your list to do.
    2. That problem is a thing of the past for the most part, they have upgraded to larger motors from a different supplier. Upgrades now should be because you want to not have to.
