Help me pick a button insert for aluminum

Apparently I didn't do enough research before buying my first shell mill and arbor. I naively assumed you could easily find inserts in any given shape for aluminum and separate inserts for steel. My tool calls for RPMT1204 inserts, and I got some wonderful Kennametal steel machining inserts already (RPHT1204M0EN KCPK30). I machined a bunch of 4140, and I can't even see where any coataing was removed, yet.

Scanning through Kennametal, Iscar, Sandvik, Mitsubishi and Seco catalogs, I cannot find any coated inserts in this geometry recommended for non-ferrous. Only Seco seems to offer an uncoated insert (H25 grade) they recommended for non-ferrous. So, I'm confused. I thought you wanted coated inserts for aluminum to prevent chip welding and edge build up.

    Help!

    Thanks,
    -Steve

One other question - can you use different relief angle inserts in the same tool? I've found some 7° inserts that are non-ferrous rated (RCxT). I'm guessing no, but haven't found the answer with searches.

    Thanks,

    Windscreen

No coating is needed for machining aluminum, most aluminum inserts have a ground or polished finished, use them with coolant when you can, & you will get a long life from them
