We think we may have a problem with our serial cable and would like to test it. However, both ends are 100ft away from each other. Any tester I have found can only test if you can have both ends right next to each other. Does anybody know of any RS232 DB25 cable tester that either has a remote unit to put on one end or able to test the cable without having both ends available?

Really no reason to test straight through. you can use one of these
Amazon.com: GearMo
and simply unplug/plug in the cable and see if the txd/rxd etc lights come on.

Why not just make a loop back connection on the remote end from TXD to RXD and see if you can send data back to the original host?

Thanks for the reply. I looked into the GearMo equipment but noticed that it was only a DB9. Do you know of a tester that is DB25? Or can I just use a DB25 to DB9 adapter and still get the results I need?

If you can't get one with both on it, you can use a 9 to 25 gender changer.
