    Milling machine upgrade

Hi. I purchased a used 45mill. Desktop milling machine. I am not a machinest and need help. The lead screw nut is worn. I thought of using normal 24 mill threaded bar to replace the acme lead screw. Can this be done?. Your advice will be greatly appreciated

It can be done, but it's not a good idea. "Normal" hardware-store type all-thread rod makes a crappy leadscrew; it's not accurate and the sharp threads cause it to feed slowly and erratically. Replace the nut, if it's worn, with another acme nut. If you want to replace both the nut and leadscrew, get matching acme components.

Thank you Awerby. I decided to stick to acme thread and replace the leadscrews and nuts. Thanks again, nearly made a big mistake
