    Best Cut Operation?

    Hi all,

I'm just wondering what would be the best way to cut something like this(attached).

I've been using Contour(3D) in these kind of ops, but looks like there's no control over where
the tool enters: I need the tool to go in where there's no material of course.
I have had a few bad experiences where I damaged the part

Any input would be a great help to me.

    Thanks,

Attached is in Mastercam Mill X5.

Move the start point of the chain geometry. Click geometry, right click on chain, click on start point and put it where you want it.

    Re: Best Cut Operation?

This leads me to ask you another question: How would you control the start point in operations like Surface Finish Constant Scallop?
I tried your method and it didn't work out...I've been trying to use the Use Approximate Start Point option...but it is not even close.
So is there any other way I can try? Thanks a lot!

Approximate start point works best if the point is on the surface itself. Or at least on a containment boundary that lies on the surface. It needs to be really close to where you want to start. Sometimes I use 2d containment that is above the surface and a point on that doesn't always make it start where I would expect it to. try using dynamic point to place a point on the surface and see if that helps you out.
