Plastic rods on a lathe - Wrapping problem! Help!

We're machining plastic. The problem we're getting is that the cut plastic gets wrapped up tightly around the rod and makes a mess of things. We tried upping the RPM which helps but then just melts the plastic.

Is there a better way around this?
