    PCB height probing - wiring

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and to machining and have the following problem: I have a CNC 3040 and some eagle designs I want to etch. However the board is not perfectlly levelled and as a result the etching is not good enough. I want to height probe the board using pcb-probe but have no idea how to connect the board with the computer or IO board. In some tutorials says "connect the alligator clip to the board" but does not specify where the wire comes from.
Any ideas how I can set it up to height probe my boards ?

Any help is much appreciated !

    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

    Alex,
The way I do it is to connect the "probe" wire from the BOB to the copper side of the board that you want to probe. A ground wire (clip) is put on the probing tool that you use to probe the board.

This way, you can avoid the potential the tool will be grounded through the bearing and guarantee that it is by use of the ground clip. The copper side of the board should be isolated from the frame of the machine so the only continuity will be at the point of the probe and the copper.

    Hope this makes sense.

Thanks a lot for your reply !!
Could you tell me how I can identify the "probe" wire and the ground wire of the BOB ?

The probe wire will go to a port pin maybe 13 or 15 or whatever you choose and the ground wire will go to a 'gnd' connection

Ok just to be sure I don't burn anything. This picture is not my BOB and I have been unable to find a big enough of mine (YOOCNC-NT65-3X).

My BOB has only the 3-pinned "box" labelled as "PROBE" just like the one in the top right on the picture above the port. However I do not have the 2 pins labelled as probe as in the middle of the board in the picture. So do I connect 2 of the 3 pins with alligator clips ? And which two ? Or do I connect the clips directly to the pins from the serial port ? (Unlike the board in the picture, mine has all the pins visible)

    Alex,
I am not sure, but found this thread here on the zone that may be of help.
Starting at post #533, there is information relating to what sounds like your board.

    See if that helps.

After some tries I did what you suggested and connected pin 15 and gnd (pin 26) and it works like a charm !!! Thank you very much for your help
