We’ve been receiving questions of all kinds from customers about which bits to use on for their projects. Here at CNC Router Store, we provide expert advice on which tools would be best for your routing projects.
Earlier in the week, we had a customer looking for a tool to cut through 5/8 melamine on particle board. For those who are unfamiliar, particle board is an engineered composite material made from wood chips, sawmill shavings, and other wood particles which are pressed together with a synthetic resin or binder. Melamine is a kind of resin that offers some water resistance.
They needed a downcut router bit that had a cutting diameter of 3/16. In this case we recommended the Onsrud 57-200 series, specifically bit number 57-260. This bit is meant for cutting natural wood and wood composites. They are designed for when downward chip removal, tool rigidity, long life, and high quality finish is desired.
