DC Gear motor and power off brake(on the load side not on motor)

Ok for example a dc gear motor with a ratio of 168:1 and a peak torque of 8332oz in. The load is 4383.9oz in. Can a power off brake be applied to the load side and not the motor itself before the gear. How much stopping force wold be needed.Would it need to match the exact load (4383.9)?

    need more information.

what is the load's intertia? i'm not sure if you gave the load, or the inertia.

is the gear box at risk of being destroyed beyond 8300 oz-in torque? or is that that torque a function of the motor burning out due to over current.
