    G540 and unexpected motor direction

    Hi,
Last month I purchased a G540 4 axis kit with ¼” shaft 23 steppers and motor cables from CNC Router Parts (I have emailed them but thought I post here aswell).

This past weekend I connected the G540, Pwr supply and Steppers. (and an E-Stop) following CNCRP instructions.

I got Mach3 up and running (un licensed, I still need to figure out how to add my existing license) on an old PC. At first I only connected a single motor for X Y & Z and everything seemed ok. I then added the second motor for Y and slaved it. I installed the X motor on my gantry leaving YY and Z uninstalled.

    Now things get weird…
I can jog the X axis in both directions (success) the Z carriage is alive!
I can jog the Z motor CW & CCW (looks good)
When I jog the Y Y motos I’ll call them Y1 and Y2 , When I go CW both spin the same way. When I go CCW Y1 changes direction but Y2 goes CW still? If this is a setting It did not jump out at me.
I guess I have some trouble shooting to do.
    Have you seen this before?

    Thanks,
    Rob.

How do you have the two Y motors setup in Mach3? Is one the A, and slaved to Y?

You need to measyre the voltage on the direction pin and see if it's changing when you change directions.

OK, rereading I see that you slaved it.

But then you say you're leaving YY uninstalled, but then in the next step you're trying to jog them?

You still need to check the direction pin voltages for both the master and slave Y motors and see what they are at, while moving in each direction.

Hi Gerry, Sorry for the confusion.

By uninstalled I mean not physically installed on the machine axis (just sitting on the table top) but all electrically connected to the G540. Only the X Stepper is installed on the machine.

I just received an email from Ahren saying I should check to see if the PC is set to EPP mode (can't do that until this evening.)
