Hi all, looking for new bearings and I am hoping some here have more experience with bearing part numbers that I do.

For example I am looking for a bearing to replace 6007Z and I think the "6007" part is the spec or defines the diameter. I see higher quality bearings ABEC7 or 9 often have additional letters like after 6007TCG12P4 or even before like S6007CTAA7. I am assuming the letters deal with type of seal single or double or grease or heat range or bearing material or seal material etc. Is that correct in that physically the diameter of 6007TCG12P4 or S6007CTAA7 is the same as 6007Z? The other letters are outside the general fitment spec, I can check size 35x62x14 for example but assuming the size is the same they are interchangeable when going from a low tolerance ABEC1 bearing and going up in quality. I assume going down in quality those letters mean more.

Can anyone confirm his?

Right, the physical dimensions of the bearing do not change as long as the 600X is the same. Every manufacturer has their own coding system, but some ~universal codes are:
ZZ = Shields on both sides
2RS = Rubber seals on both sides
P# = the ISO or DIN class, which can be translated to ABEC: http://www.globalspec.com/ImageRepos...200ec3e45e.png
Other suffixes can denote the bearing's internal clearances, the cage material, lube, vibration level, speed rating, etc. Here are some good links:

To find a specific code, google "(the manufacturer's name) bearing suffix", but even then often it's hard to tell how to group the letters.

Thanks that helps. I wound up finding NSK p4 which maps to abec7 top and bottom spindle bearings. Actually I found them by size, appears that since they are angular contact bearings and not regular ball bearing their part numbers were different even thought the 3 dimensions OD, ID and thickness were the same. I am assuming it is due to different bearing type or class of bearing that the part numbers diverged so much?

Dang premium bearings are spendy to. Especially the Japanese ones. $325 for the set. But with a mini mill that is one slop variable that is easy to control or eliminate. Expensive and likely not worth it some may argue I suppose. Either way throw out is< 1/2 that of the bearings that come in the mill so there is that.

Ah, spindle bearings. I'd recommend a lot of archive searching on that topic, especially how to install and preload the ACs. You will definitely be better off if you can get either a matched set or a pair of Universal types (ground for mix and match).
On dimensions, I think the 720X AC series maps dimensions to the 600X series. And often the high $ ACs have their own nomenclature.
