    Best settings for cutting holes...Help!

Im having chronic hole cutting issues with my Plasma. The holes are nice and smooth, taper isnt bad...however, after every cut, the torch will stop moving and the arc will remain on for 1-2 seconds before extinguishing. The result is a nasty blowout from right where the torch stopped moving but the arc remained on.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to either program the arc to turn off sooner or a different work around.

We could probably help if you let us know what type of plasma, what type of cnc machine, electronics, height control and software you are using. In reality the plasma should shut off slightly before the motion stops, this allows time for the plasma process to ramp down.

    Jim,

    My setup is as follows:

    - 5x10 Dry Table from LightningCNC.com (Uses Nema 23 Motors & Gecko G540 Board)
    - Hypertherm Powermax 45 using Hand Torch w/Machine Shield
    - No THC (Just ordered the MP3000 DTHC from C&CNC)
    - Cutting 1/8" and 1/4" Mild Steel Plate
    - Mach 3 & SheetCAM

Thanks for any help you can provide me with!

You should have SheetCAM TNG with that setup. When you get the MP3000-DTHC there will be some custom POSTS for plasma cutting that will work better for you. In addition you can do things to make cutting holes or other complex shapes better and easier. SheetCAM has Action Points that can be set and can be used without posts to control the settings on the DTHC and to do things from slow down, to turn off the DTHC function on small cuts. Hopefully you have a Floating torch holder setup on the table to let you do the touch off to get the proper pierce and cut heights across multiple cuts.
