    Checking flatness on surface plate

    Hello All!
My first post here, but have been lurking for years because of the great trove of knowledge.

I have used a piece of equipment in the past that is very useful, but I cannot find one to purchase in my new gig:
It's a Mitutoyo leveling plate. Precision ground plate made from cast steel with one fixed point and 2 fine pitch adjustable legs. Probably about 60-80 sq inches of surface to work on. Put it on the surface plate with a part on it. Put your indicator on a height stand. Set zero on the edge of the part nearest the fixed point (works best with this directly over the fixed point), then bring in the other 2 points by adjusting the screws, then check flatness by moving the indicator over the rest of the part. Probably made by others such as Starrett, also.

If anyone can tell me what they actually call this or a part number or ANY info on where I can find this, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Toad

That type of mount is usually referred to as a kinematic mount. Google that and you should be able to find enough information to make your own.

    Thanks Bob!
Yes, we could make our own - not a difficult job. We are so incredibly over-tasked right now I just wanted to buy the well-thought-out version and be done with it. It should be in a catalog somewhere, just can't find it!
