Howdy, from the lovely orange sunset this evening in hills of Colorado,
I have a fiberglass body ('27 roadster) for my street rod that I have cut in half to widen and cut across to lengthen.
I use standard E-glass cloth and polyester resins for mods which cures leaving that wax on the surface of the layup.
Yes, I am aware of the resin that does not have the wax and an additive to seal the last layer. I think that's what we used for composite fuel tanks.
However, being on a budget (cheap), I use the barnyard polyester resin which does have the wax. I usually sand it off before proceeding to the next op.
So, is there a way of prepping the surface, that is removing the wax without sanding to get rid of the wax to get ready for the next op? I have some very tight areas to prep for more glass work and right now, a delicate set up to maintain alignment between all the pieces of the body.
Now that I give it more thought (there's a concept) I realize the sanding of the wax layer adds more contact surface for additional glass work.
Thank you for your consideration.
