    Timing belt drive

I've seen plenty of timing belt drives where there is a belt on each side of the X axis and the pulleys are tied together with a shaft.
How about a single timing belt in the middle?

    Would it work?

It would.. center drive necessitates a quite stiff gantry to avoid racking under load, but it is the same problem with single screw drives.
