Preferred oil in one shot oiler?

Hi guys, I've had my mill running for a few months and am running low on oil in the one shot oiler. (this is the oil that came in the reservoir from the factory). My mill is in my garage, typically dips to around 50F in the winter. I'd like to continue using it but need an oil that wont gum up in that temp range.

What oil do you use and recommend for the one shot oiler?

I just use what I have on hand.
I have been using up a gallon of 30W Rotella. I will switch to something else similar when that is gone.
I don't think there is a need for special oils.
I have used 90W gear oil in my 80/20 mill for years. It has more tendency to stay put. I don't have oilers on it, so all done manually every week.

If you have a factory manual from the machine, it may suggest an oil weight and type.
Other than that, contact them and ask them what they use.

Bigmoe is correct. You can't go wrong with Mobil Vactra. Vactra #2 is thinner and a good all purpose way oil, while Vactra #4 is thicker to prevent excessive "drain down" on vertical surfaces.

Well the cost isn't too bad either. The #2 is $18.00 a gallon on sale at Enco right now.

Somewhat OT, but did you get your one shot oiler system with the mill?
Or did you piece it together your self?

I've been trying to get information, and to buy, a one shot oiler system form Charter Oak form my converted IH mill, but haven't made much progress so far.

Mark, mine came with the mill.

Thanks for the recommendations on the oil. I'll order up a gallon of Vactra2 from enco.

Mine came with the mill. Clausing with acurite 2axis cnc controler. The one shot is great because it puts the oil where it needs to be.

Mine is a conversion but not the IH conversion kit. It's set up for the oiler except for the ports on the ball screw housings but didn't come with all of the plumbing parts.

That is the way oil I've been using on my manual mill. Seems to work just fine.

Vac 2 is pretty much the standard. Careful with motor oils, turcite doesn't like the detergent in them, if it has turcite.
