encoder feedback splitter - one to drive one to Mach?

I'm setting up a mill with Mach 2 and Gecko 320s. I'm concerned that whenever a drive fault occurs Mach 2 looses it's position. I noticed that there are encoder inputs incorporated in the software, and was wondering if there is a simple way (perhaps a circuit) to use the shaft encoders from the motor to supply counts to both the drives and the software so that the machine can be easily reset after a drive fault.

I believe this will pause your machine before a fault even occurs. http://rogersmachine.net/encoderinterface.html
