Manual Router "bits" with CNC ROuter

    Hi all

I have a set of normal manual router bits that I use(d) with the hand held. However there are a few project i have in mind that I would like to use some of the edge profiles with. However, as you well know, there is a bearing on the end. This can be removed BUT how do I compensate (may sound like a stupid question) for the bearing as the tip needs to be away from the wood as it isn't a cutting edge at all.

Have you done this? I am sure it's possible but how did you best compensate but still get the desired result? These bits have a 6mm or 1/4" shaft.

    Thanks in advance.

Just program the toolpath along the centerline of the bit.
Be very careful, as it's easy to crash the bearing boss into the workpiece.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a shot. Was thinking if I run it down the centre line I woild think it would crash the boss. No need to offset by the radius of the shaft?

Yes, you need to offset from the edge of your part. The amount will be dependent on the specific tool. You program the tool to travel along the center of the offset.
