    Simulation Done Right

    Calling on Burr,
Did you get all your stuff modeled for simulation purposes?Ex:mill, rotary, vices, etc.
Love to see it all in action.Maybe a video of it.I say video because simulation, well still not as good as should be for us non-4 & 5 axis pro users.Strange that on initial release of V25 the simulation quality was far better for us 3axis pro users.1st update took care of that.Anyways, just like to see how far you have pushed simulation,if you got time and are willing to share, thanks.

    Hey jrmach,
No, I had stopped with a complete tailstock holder and the rotary itself. I need to complete the machine part. Should be a little easier to do this part because some of the components are the same as some of the others. BUT, I have to go do it at my brothers shop. I brought the other parts to my house where I could do it after hours. Sitting in his shop is not as inviting. Maybe you have sparked me to get my d#$% skin on it!

I had seen you mention your simulation issue. I just dont think it's something to do with "the level" of simulation. It is more likely something related to hardware/setup specifics. Like the part where you mentioned that it worked great then at update, something changed. It became hard for me to dig into it with you because of all the variables that were introduced, so i couldnt help you verify things between our 2 systems, to eliminate.

Have you tried to get one of the BobCad guy's to remote with you?

I'll try to keep the sim machine build in mind and get something done to show you. Bump me if needed

    OK

Simulation issue I still think is a BOB thing.Rob has said time and time again the same thing.
Only way,I guess to find out is start a-fresh with the original release,,,,that is not going to happen.Remember there were huge changes in first update. As far as a remote, have no support. This is not the most important thing anyways because Preditor is what I usually use.I just wanted to see if you pushed simulation to greatness,ha.

What is the issue that you are having jrmach? There were no changes for standard simulation users from the initial release. The functionality that you had then should be the same now.

ID:	181658Where the simulation really is not up to par is on Embossments. Here I show you a picture presented 3 ways.(1)Simulation with Ugly Default Blue(is there a way to make another color Default???) (2)Simulation with a color change and refined (3) Simulation from Preditor Editor 2 .
I don't use simulation very much. But I use Preditor every job,as it is the G-Code God.

    Hey jr,
So I took the cute little grommet and did a quick emboss and ran a toolpath. I thought you may want to check something... You were comparing between predators backplot and the simcut. The graphics in the simcut will be "much better" graphics than the backplot graphics. One thing that may be throwing you for a look is the simgraphics have what is called "Edge display". This will be showing vector edges, that wont be shown in the backplot. These can be good, but also may lead you to believe it "looks worse"?

Try setup a sim and then go to the analysis tab and disable the edge display. This would have it render the same as what you see in the backplot window...

Burr,I did as you said,,the result was marginally better.Preditor is better for the eye in this case....?????
Maybe Rob can Chime in with his opinion,,as we both seem to experience something not quite up to par.
    I can live with this.
Basic shapes work great,it seems the Embossments are troublesome.
The good thing is the Sim is fast as Snot.Preditor took like 10 minutes(almost 200,000 lines of code)

Looks like a good thorough video, getting into the depths of simulation,,hmmm, maybe a request ? ?

what video card are you using, i worked with my card settings last night, and this helped a lot on the embossing, also the resolution of the emboss stock helps
i am not the one to explain how to do this, lot of different settings tried

    Ouch.

Is getting a more powerful system at all possible? That's at the very low end for running a computation / graphics heavy application. You don't necessarily need top of the line, either. A new $700.00 budget gaming rig from Newegg or TigerDirect would run circles around that laptop. Of course, times are on the lean side all around, these days. I'd find it hard to upgrade right now, myself.

Ha,ha,well the computer was pretty good 4 years ago,,,,,,,hard to keep up.Still,,,the fact is ,Preditor looks better to the Eye on Embossments than Simulation. And preditor is a Dinosaur.
The file is too big to upload here, ughhh. Can some try the picture and post a picture of the simulation result here?
    The settings I used were 96 resolution with .100 Z depth Add.The tool was a .125 with .0625 radius.The tool path Slice Planar with .006 step-over.
Thanks.P.S. I am using V25 3 Axis Pro.It would be interesting to see results done with what I got and with the V25 4th or 5th axis Pro,to see if a difference between the two,All done with ""super computers" to also check if it is my computer, spitting out the not so good simulation.

I think a lot of it is just how the Simulation software is written. I have a lot more horsepower to throw at it, but a fairly complex emboss still looks pretty bad in Simulation. I can get a much nicer look by zooming in and clicking the "Apply Refine" button. Problem is, it only redraws what's on the screen when you click it, and zooming back out to see the whole job leaves a small area of stock surrounded by nothing.

I haven't spent much time playing with graphics settings yet. For reference, the graphics adapter I have has roughly 10x the cores, and double the ram as that mobile adapter. That sure sounds more like a software limitation.

That'sa whata I thought.Am curious to see a 4th or 5th Axis Pro user try it and see if the results are the same.
The result of the simulation looks like what you would expect if using a tool twice as big.Like it is picking the wrong size of tool.

Yep, the "unrefined" views do in fact have a rounded-over look, as if the tool never got into the crevices as it actually does, and when zoomed in and "refined", it looks correct. Sounds like we're seeing the same thing. The question now becomes whether it's a big enough issue to the user base at large for BobCAD to change anything. I don't know how many users do finely detailed embossings versus run of the mill machined parts.

Also, to be fair, it's very nice to see a detailed image in simulation, but I'm much more concerned with stuff like, "Did I set it up to actually cut into the stock this time, instead of flying about overhead, like before?", and "OMG, that hole doesn't go there!".

I do like the fact the Simulation is faster than Snot.
I do like the fact that my ""under-powered"" computer works just fine with BoB.

I have 4th axis Pro if you want me to try it. You can send it using YouSendIt.com since you say it is a large file.
