Question about helix bore & short cut keys in MC X5 mill

    Hello,

I've been adding custom short cut keys lately and would like to add one for 'regenerate selected tool path'.
Is this one possible? I don't see it avalible in the short cut manager.

Also I would like to sometimes use cutter comp with the helix bore tool path. But I need a tool radius's linear feed before the helix.
My controller can't activate cutter comp during an arc move. Is there a work around for this?

    Thanks,
    Barry

First question: No idea. I do not think Regenerate is a command outside of the Operations Manager. In other words, it is not on a pull down menu.

On your second problem, are you sure you have the Control Definition settings correct?

I see what you mean about the Operations Manager. None of the managers have short cut keys for there internal functions.

The lead in is more of an issue with the Mach 3 controller. It needs this lead in to apply the tools D word entry.
If I start the helix above the part and use a pependicular entry, it gives me a small linear lead in. I could then post and edit to make this line long enough.
I just don't like manual edits unless abolutely nesassary.

    Thanks for the reply,
    Barry

Review picture to get cutter comp with Helix.

This works OK but the lead is not long enough. My controller needs at least a cutter radius.
I realize this may be impossible if the cutter starts inside the bore. But if I had clearance above the part it should be OK.

Here the code of your example picture...thanks for that.
It looks like the lead in after the G41 is only .125"...I need at least .250"

    N102 T23 M06 (EM 1/2 3 F PM FN 1.3 LOC CONTOUR)
    N103 (MAX - Z1.)
    N104 (MIN - Z-.5)
    N105 G00 G90 G54 X0. Y0. S5120 M03
    N106 G43 H23 Z1.
    N107 G00 G90 Z.1
    N108 G94 G01 Z0. F15.
    N109 G41 D23 Y-.125 F6.
    N110 Y-.25
    N111 G03 Y.25 Z-.04 R.25

As a side question. Is it uncommon on industrial controllers, HAAS, OKUMA, FADAL, etc., to need such a long lead in for cutter comp?

Then use contour with a ramp option and tell it to to the lead in and out above the first cut.

Your the master...that works great. After un-checking gouge check in lead in/out it's just what I needed.

    Thanks
