    What Drill Bit is this?

Hi, I got a few drill bits with the CNC machine that I purchased. I know they are curddy, but I still want to test them out. What drill bit is this - i.e. type? I'm trying to get everything working in my CAM software and I'm stuck with the definition of the tool.

That is not a drill bit. It is either a router bit or an end mill. Difficult to tell from the photo if it has square corners or not.

Are there any markings on the shank?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, I've been looking into the issue some more and I'm thinking that's it's a flat end, end mill as well. Really hard to find any information about all this on the net for some reason.

There are no markings on it, I got it with my Chinese CNC. It's a strange size, it seems to be closest to 3.5 but either my ruler is off or it's not... either way, it looks closer to 3.25mm. I haven't got any calipers yet to confirm, yet to acquire those.

    Anyway, questions are:

1.) just need confirmation that it is indeed a flat end endmill.

2.) confirmation that these drill bits are used for routing out a bit from a stock i.e. contouring I think it's also called?

3.) How do you calculate flute length? Is it up to where the cutting out juuust finishes? or is there some other place that this is measured at?

Sounds like a 1/8" high-helix aluminium-cutting square end mill to me.
If it is 'heavy' it could be Chinese carbide.
I doubt it would last very long cutting steel: I wouldn't even try. OK on aluminium and plastic.

    Cheers

This is 2-flute slot drill, and the design is called a ‘Ferocious’ router that's made for high-speed milling of aluminium.

It's a spiral upcut router bit used for woodworking.

Its looks like 2 flute Flat End mill, Probably either 3.175 shank or 3mm, The cutting tip looks like a .125/ 1/8,
Also to answer your question yes the the cut length is from the tip of the tool all the way until the flutes stop
