    G0704 Z-axis broken parts

    Greetings,

    First time poster...

Unpacking my new G0704 and the Z-axis leadscrew nut broke off from the block. I didn't have the head cranked up all the way to the top when I hoisted the unit from the crate to the stand.

So, headed off to Grizzly's website... the leadscrew nut is backordered until the end of March.

I am planning on performing Hoss' CNC conversion but need some Z-axis control now.

Is there anyone out there who has already converted and no longer needs their original nut and/or block? I could either purchase the parts from you or trade for my new parts when they come in.

    Help a newbie out!

    Clarification

    Apologies for the interruption...

Clarifying that I only need the leadscrew nut. I had assumed that the cylindrical portion of the nut was threaded into the block, but I learned otherwise.

As you can see, I managed to remove the cylinder.

    Any help is appreciated!

It probably would not cost to much to have that made at your local machine shop. It also could be made from many different type metal if wanted (brass, bronze, cast iron, or even 6061 or 7075 aluminum).

Also a quick fix could be to get your local welding shop to braze the pieces back together. You might have a small problem with weld coming through to the threads inside but if it does just grind that small part out with a die grinder because you have plenty of other threads ( this is not permanent right). Welding would not hold as good as brazing here so be sure its someone who has a big torch.

Someone may have one that doesnt need it, but with backorderes at grizzly and the very thin cross section of the part they may all be gone from others needing them.

    Thanks, Hoss... e-mail sent.

Jess, I had thought about that as well. That was likely going to be plan B. I have a Grizzly lathe on order as well, so I could turn down a block and thread it once the lathe shows up.

This is exactly the reason that I decided to tool up... I have an uncanny knack for breaking things. Once I get set up, HOPEFULLY I will become more self-sufficient.

    Best regards,

    Keith
